Big Mamou Enterprises's "New Iberia/Morgan City region" of Cajun Country!!!

This region beginning with New Iberia and Loreauville, is too Hot! being home to the Tabasco Co, head quarters, in Avery Island. The famous  Jungle gardens are here too! Be sure to not miss theShadows on the teche the only National Trust historic museum and garden  in Louisianan! Being along the Atchafalaya basin, or Swamp is really what it is, It's now referred to as the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area being a river basin and wilderness area, with rich fields of sugar cane along it's banks.

The Cajun Coast area of Cajun Country as it is referred to , can begin a great tour or Sunday outing. Morgan city being a port city with strong ties to the Oil Exploration industry, Work boats, as well as fishing and shrimp boats ply these waters, into Vermilion bay and eventually to the Gulf of Mexico.

The Charenton and Franklin area  now has their own casino, and the traffic has increased, the cane industry thrives here, and the season is upon us so watch for the cane trucks, and the other industry related trappings. The area is know for their Oaks, and beautiful homes and settings, so watch the road but enjoy the view.

As with most of the areas of Cajun Country, come hungry, for the great cajun country  food, the wonderful  music along the bayous, rivers, and thoroughfares of cajun country, being the lonesome call of a fiddle, or the beat of a washboard, being complimented with a long faced melody.

Big Mamou Enterprises's "Lafayette Region" of Cajun Country!!!

The Hub city, Lafayette is considered the Hub city of Cajun Country, or of Acadia

 People have written songs about it and it seems everyone wants to go to Lafayette.The way  to start is to try Lafayette travel .The region covers a large portion and many of Cajun Country's famous places, starting in Evangeline parish, Ville Platte, Mamou just to mention a few.  The Parish of St Landry,

offers many sights and sounds, be sure to not miss the Liberty Theatre, in Eunice. big times in store for you.

Opelousas is a great town to visit, and has many sights, and great food, and fun. try it out!

If you want to try out the Lafayette region log on to the Center for Cultural and Eco Tourism,  One of the biggest festival of Cajun Country happens on long this bayou, and the bridge that crosses it!

Breaubridge Craw fish festival Look for the Statue of Scholastique Pico Breaux!

 is a time to try out for the family and it's filled with food, fun Cajun & Zydeco music, that famous Louisiana Swamp pop, with the great of Cajun country.

The Lafayette area is famous for all the things that make a region of this country of our's. Remember that the roads are dangerous and the people friendly, Have fun when you travel through Cajun Country and be safe.

Big Mamou Enterprises's "Lake Charles Region" of Cajun Country!!!

A familiar sight! Southwest Louisiana,Western edge of Cajun Country, Cross the Sabine from Texas, and here you are!

The region has a lot to offer, and check out these to start with.

Lake Charles Convention & visitors Bureau.

It is full of the sights and sounds of Cajun Country and will help you on your quest.

another place to look is to the south. Cameron parish Tourist Commission.  my favorite is the Creole Nature Trail, the sights sounds and all the ingredients of Cajun country rolled up in a day out.. To the north try out the Train depot and famously friendly folks of De quincy!  the next area of the Lake Charles region is a favorite one to try, while you are there try your luck at their Casino, or enjoy a round at their golf courses. Allen Parish offering the northern edge of Cajun Country plenty of excitement. Lets not forget to the East is the parish of Jeff Davis, and the park along I-10, offering live Alligators, an oil field history museum, and plenty to see and do.

The lake Charles region of Cajun Country offering cajun country to the world. enjoy our Cajun food, fun and the cajun way.

This is my Louisiana, The new Mantra !!!! Big Mamou Enterprises.

The new Mantra of the state is "This is my Louisiana" well it is and we should pay attention to it. we have worked and learned and changed and bettered ourselves through trial and error, and hardship's and shameful acts, and all the things people go through growing up.

It's like that when you constantly have new influences, and feelings involved in the progression of life.

Louisiana, the state we are in, another sate mantra, is doing pretty well, with the oil industry down, and the effects of the economy, and the change Washingtonis trying to shove down our throats, We are awake and watching you in the capital. so like we say in Cajun Country, "faire attention" to be careful !!!

This my Louisiana, and it is! so be responsible, and let's watch out for her!!!

Big Mamou Enterprises, Let's look at biking in our way!!! What you must know.

It's like this, yesterday I was almost run over by some person driving a 3 wheeled vehicle, near the ward 3 recreation youth field, and they were flying up and down the road.

Speeding with any sort of vechile is as we all know is dangerous.

I decided to learn a bit of the laws concering bikes, and my responsiblity.

Did you know.

Bike/Pedestrian Safety

Simple steps to driving with a cyclist

•

Pass only when there is enough room. Keep at least three feet

between you and the cyclist.

•

Be careful when turning. Passing a cyclists and then

immediately turning is dangerous. Treat them as a car and wait

for them to pass the intersection.

•

No need to honk! Honking may startle a cyclist and may cause

an accident.

•

Bicycles are traffic too! Give them the right of way as you

would a car and check for them when opening your door on the

street.

Bicycle Safety Tips

•

Obey traffic signs and signals - Bicycles must be driven like

other vehicles if they are to be taken seriously by motorists.

•

Helmet, don’t leave home without it! Wear a helmet that has

been approved by Snell, American Society for Testing and

Materials (ASTM), or American National Standards Institute

(ANSI) .

•

Never ride against traffic - Motorists aren’t looking for

bicyclists riding along the wrong side of the road.

•

Don’t ride with headphones.

•

Use proper hand signals - Hand signals tell motorists and

pedestrians what you intend to do. Signaling is a matter of law

of courtesy, and of self-protection.

•

Make eye contact with drivers - Assume that other drivers

don’t see you until you are sure that they do.

•

Scan the road - Learn to look around you while driving

without losing your balance.

•

Keep both hands ready to brake.

•

Avoid road hazards - Be mindful of potentially dangerous

debris in the road.

•

Dress appropriately - Wear clothes that make you visible.

•

When riding through along busy streets, ride in single file.

•

Use a light and reflectors when riding at night

Remember that everyone wants to have some fun, and we should watch out for each other.

Remembering Hurricane "Katrina". and all she deystroyed!!! #3

This little turtle was forced into this fence wire and trapped by the force of the surge, now this photo was taken about the end of december, just a couple of months after the storm, near the Raggio water tower.

Traveling through out the lower Saint Bernard parish and looking at the destruction was unbelievable, I decided to not take many pictures of this devastation, and the destruction of people's lives, homes and lively hoods.

I have a few like this that can speak volumes of the times that were, I will share these and more stories with you over the next month.

Remembering Hurricane "Katrina". and all she deystroyed!!! #2

The damage as everyone knows was tremendous, and the displacement was greater than anything that has happened in the US ever.

The house's were all empty and the first jobl I was on was near  a bridge that was covered by the surge that came up the Mr Go, ( Mississippi River Gulf Outlet) that flooded Saint Bernard and the southern part of New Orleans.

This second photo may give you some idea of the surge force that swept through the area,"the water was 22 feet deep right here"

The sihts and smell's in the parish were tremendous, the resue and recovery going on with helicopters searching and the National guard watching over it all.

Returning to Saint Bernard parish after Katrina, and starting to explore for oil and gas, I had some time to explore, with the Coast Gard looking for victims I ran across many other types of victims as seen here.

I will show you in a short series of photos the effect of surge on the city of Chalmette.

This past weekend I had the privilage to shott a soccer match between the Calcasieu Eagles, and The Crush from Lafayette, 64 minutes of action and the outcome was close but the Crush had to face the long ride back to Lafayette with a fresh defeat, the images from the event can be seen at my event site,realtime-cajun.photoreflect.com
